Community Teaching & Village Visit

While the volunteers mainly teach to students in Chennai, they also have an opportunity to teach in the villages to see the differences between the two locations. For this opportunity, the small agricultural village in the district of Erode was chosen. IAPA coordinated with a local NGO, which allowed volunteers to stay in the village for two days and teach to agricultural workers, industrial workers, manual laborers and members of women’s SHGs. This also benefits the rural communities in gaining knowledge about HIV/AIDS, since many times little information is known and IAPA was able to reach out to 870 villagers. Besides teaching in schools, the volunteers also taught to slum women & adolescents and members of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Chennai. The details of the community teaching are listed below.
